Application and Development Trends of Lithium ion Capacitors

Lithium ion capacitors have a wide range of application prospects because they combine the advantages of lithium batteries and traditional double-layer capacitors. Compared with lithium batteries, they are more stable and have less self discharge; Compared with double-layer capacitors, the charging speed of the two is not much different, but the density is higher. In the case of the same storage capacity, the size is only a fraction of the latter.

At present, lithium-ion capacitors improved on the basis of double-layer capacitors are applied in four aspects: 1. Balanced wind power generation, which generates less electricity when there is a gentle breeze and can be used for power supply; During strong winds, capacitors can be used to store electricity without causing waste; 2. Street lamp battery, a fully charged unit (including LED lighting fixtures, solar panels, lithium-ion capacitors) can maintain illumination throughout the night. If nickel hydrogen batteries or lithium-ion batteries are used, complex control modules need to be designed; 3. The principle of mains power balance is the same as that of wind power generation. Lithium ion capacitors assist peak current in applications such as UPS uninterruptible power supply systems and engineering elevators, thereby achieving system miniaturization through the small capacity of the main power supply; 4. Backup power supply: applications for large power vehicles and small electronic control equipment.

Lithium ion capacitors have certain attractiveness in terms of added value due to their miniaturization advantages, and at the same time, they have good reuse characteristics, reducing the trouble of replacement and maintenance. As a power source, its development shows promising prospects.
